the working-class village where time seems to have stopped
Along the bank of the river Adda rises a modern "ideal village of work", wanted and realized by the Cretan family, Lombard cotton-makers of the late nineteenth century. The Cretan Village of Adda is a real complete town built from nothing by the owner of the factory for its employees and their families. The workers were provided with a house with garden and garden and all the necessary services. In this perfect little world the master "reigned" from his castle and provided as a father all the needs of the employees. Unesco welcomed Cresspi d'Adda on the Protected World Heritage List as an "Exceptional example of the phenomenon of workers' villages, the most complete and best preserved in Southern Europe".
